The All-New BMW iX3: A New Electric Era Begins with Neue Klasse

BMW has officially unveiled the BMW iX3, the first series-production model built on the revolutionary Neue Klasse platform. More than just the next chapter in BMW’s electric journey, the new iX3 signals a fundamental leap forward in design, technology and sustainability – setting the direction for the entire future BMW model range.

As the spearhead for the Neue Klasse, the new BMW iX3 introduces innovations that will feature across up to 40 new and updated BMW models by 2027, regardless of powertrain type. In doing so, BMW is redefining what customers can expect from an electric Sports Activity Vehicle.

Neue Klasse: The Biggest Leap in BMW’s Modern History

Described by BMW as its most important future-focused project to date, Neue Klasse represents a ground-up rethink of how BMW vehicles are designed, engineered and experienced.

According to Oliver Zipse, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW, Neue Klasse combines “practically everything that is new” with the core DNA that defines BMW driving pleasure. The BMW iX3 is the first proof point of that vision – and it’s a bold one.

Class-Leading Electric Range and Charging Performance

Designed exclusively as a fully electric vehicle, the new BMW iX3 debuts sixth-generation BMW eDrive technology, delivering exceptional efficiency, performance, and long-distance usability.

Key highlights include:

  • Up to 500 miles WLTP range on a single charge
  • 469 hp and 645 Nm of torque in the iX3 50 xDrive
  • 0–62 mph in just 4.9 seconds
  • 800V architecture enabling ultra-rapid charging
  • Up to 231 miles of range added in 10 minutes at a 400 kW DC charger
  • 10–80% charging in approximately 21 minutes

Thanks to major reductions in energy losses, weight, and manufacturing complexity, the BMW iX3 sets a new benchmark for electric efficiency in the premium SUV segment.

A Radical New Digital Architecture

At the heart of the BMW iX3 is an all-new digital nervous system powered by four high-performance “superbrains”. These manage everything from driving dynamics and automated driving to infotainment and comfort systems.

The standout innovation is the Heart of Joy, a new control unit that processes driving inputs up to ten times faster than conventional systems. The result is sharper handling, smoother braking and exceptional energy recuperation – with up to 98% of braking handled purely through regeneration.

BMW Panoramic iDrive: Redefining the Cabin Experience

Inside, the BMW iX3 introduces BMW Panoramic iDrive, powered by the new BMW Operating System X. This driver-focused interface is built around BMW’s “hands on the wheel, eyes on the road” philosophy and features:

  • A Panoramic Vision display spanning the width of the windscreen
  • Optional 3D Head-Up Display with spatial navigation graphics
  • A newly designed Central Display angled towards the driver
  • A multifunction steering wheel acting as the primary physical control hub

The system is fully customisable, supports advanced voice control via the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, and integrates seamlessly with the My BMW App for navigation, charging, and vehicle management.

Clean Design Meets BMW Character

The new BMW iX3 debuts a completely new BMW design language – one that is cleaner, more reduced, and more confident, while remaining unmistakably BMW.

Exterior highlights include:

  • Vertically arranged sculpted kidney grille
  • New twin headlight design with vertical daytime running lights
  • Flush door handles and optimised aerodynamics (Cd of just 0.24)
  • Bold SAV proportions with a spacious, practical footprint

Inside, the cabin adopts a minimalist, wrap-around cockpit layout with increased rear legroom, generous storage, and sustainable materials throughout. Standard Econeer upholstery uses recycled PET textiles, reinforcing BMW’s move towards a leather-free interior strategy.

Sustainability Built In from the Start

Sustainability is central to the BMW iX3’s development. Around one third of the vehicle is made from secondary raw materials, including recycled aluminium, marine plastics, and PET textiles. Over its full life cycle, the BMW iX3 50 xDrive reduces CO₂ emissions by more than 30% compared to its predecessor.

The vehicle is produced at BMW Group Plant Debrecen in Hungary – BMW’s first plant to operate without fossil fuels during normal production.

UK Availability, Pricing, and Trim Levels
