Be Summer ready by using these helpful tips for any big trips you may have planned this Summer.

Whether you’re going on a road trip or a trip to the beach, we rely on our car and need to take these necessary steps for a stress-free safe journey.

Below are some of our top tips to maximise your safety on the road.

  • Check the battery - This is the most common reason for car breakdowns, excessive temperatures can be damaging to your car battery if it’s not sealed properly. If you don’t have a low-maintenance battery be sure to keep on top of your fluid level and top up with distilled water when needed.
  • Air Conditioning - Coming up to the hotter months it’s important that your air conditioning is performing at it’s best. Older cars are recommended for the air-con systems to be regassed every two years, so if you haven’t had your car serviced, now is the time to do so in prep for all Summer events.
  • Tyre Pressure - It’s important to check your tyre pressure all year round along with any tread wear or anything that could result in a puncture. The hot weather can increase the air pressure in your tyres which can cause strain to weak areas leading to risk of a puncture.
  • Fluid check - When planning a long journey, it’s best to check all fluid levels- coolant, engine oils, brake, clutch, and power steering. It’s responsible to check your coolant and engine oil levels weekly and topping up your windscreen washer fluid when needed.
  • Wipers - During Summer your windscreen can get filthy quickly due to insects, dust, and bird droppings. Check the condition of your windscreen wipers to keep a clear vision of the road and that they won’t smear across your windscreen.

It’s a good idea to have your car serviced before any long journeys to ensure no breakdowns will occur during your trip.
