2019 BMW 3 Series set for Paris Motor Show

Added: 30 August 2018

German giants BMW are set to unveil their brand new iteration of their super-popular BMW 3 series at next month’s Paris Motor Show.

The 3 Series is set for its first revamp since 2011 and the latest version unveiled in Paris will be the 7th generation of the compact executive car.  The model is set to be the most crucial car of the decade and will see a new platform introduced as well as more electrification as the premium manufacturer looks towards the future.

New BMW 3 Series Engines

The 2019 3 Series will make the switch to BMW’s new CLAR platform which the 5 series and X3 are currently based on. The move will allow the 3 Series to be powered by the next generation of BMW engines.  Most importantly, the switch will see the very first fully electric 3 Series which will be badged as the i4.  The model isn’t set to arrive in UK showrooms until 2020 but it will based upon the Visions Dynamics Concept showcased last year at the Frankfurt Motor Show, and will boast a mightily impressive 435 mile range. There will, however, be plug-in hybrid versions made available for when the car reaches showrooms to ensure those looking for a PHEV won’t be disappointed. It looks likely that one will be badged the 325e and will utilise the same 148bhp 1.5 litre three cylinder petrol engine seen in the Mini Countryman PHEV that’s twinned with a 110bhp electric motor.  The second plug-in hybrid, likely to be named the 330e will be powered by a 2.0 litre turbo and electric motor delivering upwards of 280bhp. Both models will be designed to utilise BMW’s new inductive charging technology which will launch with the new 530e later this year.

New BMW 3 Series Design

Of course, there will also be a versatile range of both petrol and diesel options for you to choose from with the new BMW 3 Series.  The diesel models will all be backed by a 2.0 litre four cylinder engine with varying degrees of power, starting at 150bhp and working its way up to 230bhp. On the petrol side of things there will be a 1.5 litre three cylinder engine in the 318i and a 2.0 litre four cylinder turbo in the 320i and 330i with power ranging from 190bhp to the range topping 260bhp.

Leaked images leave us with a lot to be excited about when it comes to aesthetics for the new 3 Series with what looks to be a heavily revised design. It’s rumoured that thanks to the new platform the 7th generation saloon should shed around 40kg in weight despite being both slightly wider and longer, generating both more luggage and passenger space.
